The Application Guidelines lists eligible costs - these include things such as travel, living expenses while overseas, research assistants etc. University administration costs, up to 8% of the total costs, can be claimed; however, the makeup of these costs must be accurately detailed specifically rather than bunched under a general “Admin” budget line (i.e. “Admin Staff $20/hr*50hrs = $1000”, rather than “Admin = $1000”) Researcher's salaries are not eligible to be covered by this fund.
Yes, provided that they have research capabilities appropriate for the type of research being undertaken and the research is undertaken on a not-for-profit basis. It is recommended that NGO research teams pay particular attention to the research ethics requirements in the Application Guidelines.
The IDRF will support research projects of up to three years duration, but annual payments will be dependent on the appropriate reports being submitted and approved each year.
The research team must include at least one researcher based at a New Zealand university, research organisation or NGO, and who is intending to remain based at this organisation for the duration of the research. The New Zealand based researcher must play a significant role in the research project. The research team must also include at least one citizen or permanent resident from the region in which the research is focussed, and who is also based at a university, research organisation or NGO in the respective region.
The research team members must be appropriately qualified and professional development researchers. Student postgraduate research may only form, at most, a minor component of the proposed research.
